Scare Tactics

Here is an updated picture of the little Soph-a-potamus.

Of course she just looks adorable but there is trouble brewing underneath. While waiting at the doctor’s office I was scanning through a parent’s magazine and came across an article regarding childhood obesity. Of course being a concern new mother and someone who has always been on the bigger side I wanted to learn more. Basically this publication thinks I am a horrible mother and making my child fat because I do not breast feed any more. According to prefect people at Parents Magazine you should breastfeed for no less than a year. I guess that bottle feed babies consume 20% more calories than breastfeed babies. This makes sense because it is easier to drink from a bottle and parents encourage their baby to finish the bottle. Okay okay I get it, I am a terrible mother.

Now I admit that I quit a little sooner than I would have liked, but there was no way I could have continued breastfeeding when I went back to work. Like most working moms we don’t have time during the day to pump (it takes way too long). So basically you have to choose between working or having a health child.

Now although I am just upset because I really feel bad about this whole thing, the article did have some good points about obese children. It was all common sense stuff, but it was good to hear about. Basically, make sure your child drinks plenty of water, exercises, and gets a good night sleep. This parenting stuff is hard!

G-PHI You Know!!

Sophie went to her first Wednesday night dinner with the G-Phis. Everyone was so excited to meet her. Here is Meg with her, she is a natural with babies!

Here is Sophie in her Future Gamma Phi Beta outfit. Thank you Melinda, this is so cute.

This is what happened when Daddy said that she could be a Gamma Phi at KU, obviously this is a K-Stater through and through. Seriously, what was Daddy thinking.

Sophie didn't end up staying for dinner, her and Daddy wanted some bonding time. It was a great chance for me to catch up with everyone, especially Jana. We are so excited for her to be in the Kansas City area. I was also able to educate everyone on what I have learned this first month of parenthood. Basically, it boiled down to the fact that breast milk taste like cantaloupe juice. Yum Yum.

One Month

Okay okay, I know this is a few days late. Here is Sophie with her favorite toy. She is gotten so big. She is now 10lbs and approximately 22 inches long (although this is only an approximate number, she is a bit of a wiggle worm). For those of you keeping track that is 2 extra pounds and 2 more inches.

Here is Sophie's first ride in her Bumbo. I think she was freaked out by the whole experience. Daddy and I got a kick out of her faces though. Seriously, she is so entertaining. It just makes you wonder what is going through that little head of hers. I am guessing she is just thinking about how fantastic her mother is!! Just kidding.

Frank

You may remember I mentioned awhile back that we considered renaming her Frank. Well here is a prime example of why we considered the name change. She is still super cute though!!

Here are some more pictures of our darling girl. She is not a huge fan of photo shoots, but I can't help myself.
